Texas Trivia

La Grange is perhaps best known today as the home of the "Chicken Ranch" that provided the inspiration for the screenplay and movie "The Best Little Whore House in Texas." The town got its start, however, because it was located at the crossing of the Colorado River and an old buffalo trail known as La Bahia Road. Aylett Buckner built a trading post near the site in 1819, making La Grange one of the oldest settlements in Texas. John Henry Moore, one of LaGrange's more prominent citizens for many years, built a log blockhouse in the 1830s near the site of today's town. The structure served as a refuge from Indians during the years of the Republic. Fayette County, with La Grange as its county seat, was created by the Republic of Texas in 1837. Moore and the early settlers of Austin's colony were followed in the 1840s by German immigrants. Then in the 1850s, they were followed by Czechoslovakians and Moravians. Even today, La Grange and Fayette County bear the strong ethnic influence of these early groups. Located on Matagorda Bay at the mouth of the Colorado River, the town of Matagorda lies near the site where French explorer LaSalle landed with some 200 colonists in February of 1685. It was there that LaSalle established the short-lived settlement of Fort St. Louis. The present town of Matagorda was founded in the late 1820's following Stephen Austin's grant to build a town at the mouth of the Colorado River.

We developed this site to - feature our unique creations featuring the Official State Gem Stone, the Lone Star Cut Blue Topaz (Click here to see the largest known Lone Star Cut topaz), we soon began to realize that there were many other unique offerings from many talented, many Native Texan, artists that should be shared with the rest of the State.

We found "Artesanos" that worked with Sterling Silver, Colored Stones, Precious Metals, Hill Country Lime Stone and so many types of mediums that it blew our minds.

Take a look around, enjoy the site, let us know if there is anything you would like to see. Enjoy your visit and please, tell your Pure Texan friends about us!
