Texas Trivia

Originally named MisiĆ³n San Antonio de Valero, the Alamo served as home to missionaries and their Indian converts for nearly seventy years. Construction began on the present site in 1724. In 1793, Spanish officials secularized San Antonio's five missions and distributed their lands to the remaining Indian residents.

Details

Originally conceived as a folksong (and love song!) in early Colonial Texas history, the first recorded copy of the Yellow Rose of Texas was handwritten on a piece of plain paper circa 1836. This charm bears the Rose from the famous Texas song in color that has a great contrast with the surrounding sterling silver. It may not be the state flower but it certainly has a romantic message surrounding it - just read the following lyric from the song!!

There's a yellow rose in Texas, that I am going to see,
No other soldier knows her, no soldier only me
She cryed so when I left her it like to broke my heart,
And if I ever I find her, we nevermore will part.
